User input for Johnson Pass Trail, Kenai Peninsula Borough, Alaska:
Barb Cary A: As a Kenai Peninsula hiker and resident, I can say that Johnson Pass Trail is a winner. It's a relatively easy, well-established trail, through beautiful alpine terraine (especially on the north side of the pass). I've done the traverse both as a long 23-mile day hike, and as a 2-day backpack. There are no established campgrounds on the trail - make your own site and leave no trace. Water is available in streams and lakes pretty much all along the trail - but filter or treat all Alaska's water. I recommend going from North to South, especially if you do it as a one-day megahike. It's also a favorite for mountain bikers.
