About half way up there is a ''V'' in the trail and you need to stay to the left or straight ahead. The trail leading up and to the right ends in scree and downed trees. It's a moderately strenuous trail up to the reservoir; but well worth it. Afterwards, we hiked up and past the reservoir and wanted to loop around and hit the lower Stanley trail but were unable to find the trailhead for it. We ended up blazing new ground and coming down Eagle Peak trail much to our surprise. You'll have to go far from Colorado Springs to get to Stanley Canyon Trail but trails like these are great. The wonderful folks of Colorado Springs like to hang out close by, and if you came for an overnight stay Lake Of The Rockies Retreat is a tremendous location to camp. Camping is available at Promontory Campground, and of course, A trip to Stanley Canyon is always fun. Hiking trails are all over the Front     Range where beautiful scenery awaits you. For the period of the months of summer, highs ordinarily are in the 80's at Stanley Canyon Trail with nighttime lows in the 40's. The wintertime brings highs down to the 40's; winter nights come with lows in the 0's to Stanley Canyon Trail. As long as you like the outdoors you will like Colorado. Be careful coming to the Front Range, you might not ever wanna return home again. An attention-grabbing thing to have a look at close to Stanley Canyon Trail is Stanley Canyon Dam; a visit to Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument is recommended.
