| you're here at Winter Mesa Trail, and if you come at the right time of year, Escalante Creek offers some nice whitewater.
Pretty far from Montrose you find Winter Mesa Trail but it is a great escape from the city. And if that's not sufficient there's heaps more cool stuff to do in the Uncompahgre Plateau Mountains. There are some splendid whitewater spots on Kannah Creek, and camping at Amphitheater - Gunnison National Forest is always a glorious experience. Winter Mesa Trail really is in the middle of a pretty outdoors paradise.
