| | It's a long drive from Hartford-West Hartford-East Hartford to Mattabesset Trail but what a great place for hiking it is. Hiking here in Connecticut is a must. For the period of the days of summer, highs generally are in the 80's at Mattabesset Trail. For the duration of the moonlight hours it's usually in the 50's. The cold days of the winter come with highs in the 30's while Mattabesset Trail night low temperatures during the wintertime are in the 10's.
Highland Pond Dam is worth taking a look at while you're here, and Wadsworth Falls State Park is a beautiful |
place any time of year. Mattabesset Trail gets lots of water; of all the months in a year May is the one with the most rain, and February on the other hand is the driest. A great place near Mattabesset Trail is Preston Notch, and why not a little side journey to Manthey Brook.
| Get yourself into a kayak and hit Roaring Brook River, and a visit to Mattabesset Trail wouldn't be complete without taking a look at Westfield Falls. If you come at the right time of year, Hammonasset River offers some tremendous whitewater, and Mattabesset Trail is a splendid place to camp, Nelson's Family Campground is a splendid place. Roaring Brook is a splendid local stream.
What a spot this is for outdoors people. This is a popular place for people from Hartford-West Hartford-East Hartford; Little City Campground is a fine campground here. | |
