We hiked the Mattatuck from Buttermilk Falls to the southeast toward Wolcott with the expectation of finding Indian Jack?s Cave and Ledge. As always, Buttermilk was great with several inches of ice and numerous icicles this cool morning. About « mile past Buttermilk Falls, the trail connects to the old Tolles-Wolcott Road in the Indian Heaven area. We could not find the trail on the east side of the road. There was a house with a mean old dog where we believe the trail goes, but a neighbor recommended not going near the area because of the dog. Never found Indian Jack?s.

East Morris Brook is a beautiful stream that is worth going to; camping is available at Branchbrook Campground. Now, you may assume that's plenty but there's even more amusing stuff to do here at Mattatuck Trail. Why not camp at Black Rock State Park while you're here at Mattatuck Trail; if you want to hit the beach, Morris Town Beach is close at hand. people, and while you're here you will meet lots of people from close by Torrington.
Mattatuck Trail is a relatively wet place usually with a great deal of rainfall; June is when you get the most rain here, and February is the month with the least moisture.
