I was there during the weekend before the 4th. DO not plan to stay a whole day here. Have a snack see the falls and move on to other falls. I camped here and it was okay. Had a run in with a huge Timber rattler 3/4 of a mile from entrance of Desot and realized camp was below....... Go see the Waters Creek area as well. Have a great lunch for few hours at Vogel North of DeSoto.

  DeSoto Falls Trail is a long drive away from Gainesville but it is one of many great trails in this area. Georgia is a good place for outdoors people. It's always perfect to go to Nottely Falls, and if you came to camp Chestatee Knoll Campground is a great location to do that. A lot of precipitation falls at DeSoto Falls Trail; March is the wettest month with most rain, and October on the other hand is the driest.
At DeSoto Falls Trail through the months of summer highs are in the 80's with overnight lows in the 60's. During the wintertime the highs
    are mostly in the 40's; throughout the dark hours in the winter at DeSoto Falls Trail temperatures dip to the 20's. A trip to DeSoto Falls will fill your spirit with great feelings, and get soaked paddling on Frogtown Creek. When was the last time you got out in nature a bit?
DeSoto Falls Trail in Lumpkin County, Georgia is just what you need.
Be careful coming to the Blue Ridge Mountains, you might not ever wanna go home again. Whitewater paddling is tremendous on Helton Creek; you must check out Levelland Cove when you're here. Shanty Branch is a magnificent site to go to; a good site is Neels Gap.
And if that's not enough, there's a load more to do near DeSoto Falls Trail. DeSoto Falls Trail is magnificent enough to spend more than a day at, Lake Winfield Scott Campground is a magnificent local campground. There are many wonderful hiking trails in the Blue Ridge Mountains where wonderful nature is waiting for you.
