Cougar Basin Trail is a very long way away from civilization and it is a great escape from the city. Idaho has lots of outdoors activities. There are many wonderful hiking trails in the Salmon River Mountains where you can absorb the beauty of these mountains.
This is a really good river. Visit Wolf Creek since you're here at Cougar Basin Trail, and camping at Amanita Campground is always a tremendous experience. Now, you may think that's
    a heap but there's even more amusing things to do here in the Salmon River Mountains. Cougar Basin Trail is close to Mica Saddle which is absolutely worth visiting, and get your heart pumping on the good whitewater of Payette River - North Fork. Don’t forget to stop at Burnt Basin
while you're here at Cougar Basin Trail; Cougar Basin Trail is splendid enough to spend more than a day at, Cabin Creek Campground is a splendid local campground.
During the warm days of summer, highs generally are in the 80's at Cougar Basin Trail with overnight lows in the 40's. Highs through the winter are mostly in the 30's with temperatures at Cougar Basin Trail dipping down into the 0's through winter nights. You should definitely dedicate some time to Cougar Basin while you're here at Cougar Basin Trail. Cougar Basin Trail gets very little rain; throughout the month of December you get the most snow around here, and the driest month is July.
