The trail has not been maintained. I was able to hike it easily to the top 2 or 3 years ago. Not today...It was overgrown a lot and substantial deadfall. There are some burned spots also. That said, it's beautiful and a rigorous hike. Wear pants as the twigs will scratch you, and take insect repellant. Check your body for ticks also. The lookout is cool.

Camping is available at Buckhorn Campground, and you can run the rapids of Salmon River - South Fork. Miners Peak Trail is a good place of typical rainfall; January is the wettest month with most snow, and July meanwhile is the driest month.
