Hog Pen Trail is a long drive away from Mount Sterling but if you're looking for a good place to go hiking this is a good choice. For the duration of the warm months here at Hog Pen Trail, high temperatures mostly get into the 80's, and through the night it cools down to the 60's. Highs through the winter are mostly in the 40's, and overnight lows in the 10's for Hog Pen Trail. Much precipitation falls at Hog Pen Trail; May is the wettest month
    with most rain, and January on the other hand is the driest.
All the outdoors fun stuff in the Cumberland Plateau Mountains will keep you coming back over and over. Reynolds Hollow is a splendid place to explore, and you're sure to run into some good folks from Mount Sterling

In case you don’t mind getting covered with water, you can always go whitewater paddling on Red River, and you can stay the night at Buckskin Run Camper Park. This part of Kentucky is always a pleasure to visit during hiking season. There are many hiking trails in the Cumberland Plateau Mountains where you can truly take in all the beauty of these mountains.
Peter Cave Run is a stream that you may come across while you're here; The Outpost Campground is a splendid campground nearby.
