Fred Wright T-322: The Pigeon River District, Daniel Boone Council, Boy Scouts of America has the charge of clearing and maintaining this trail. Once each year, the local troops of Haywood County hike this trail and clear downed trees and vegetation that is obstructing this historic trail. The portion of trail cleaned extends from Cataloochee Gap to Mount Sterling. 2008 will see the trail being re-blazed with yellow marks. When hiking this trail, one should be able to see the mark ahead as well as behind when you are standing at a blazed tree. The troops also have the opportunity to camp in a primitive campsite set aside for Boy Scout use only. This campsite is located near the river gauging station at the Asbury Crossing at Cataloochee creek.
