There are many hiking trails in the Great Smoky Mountains where you can truly take in all the beauty of these mountains. If you came for an overnight stay Meadowbrook Resort is a great site to camp, and Caldwell Fork Trail is a location with many visitors from Newport.
Balsam Mountain Campground is a great campground here, and nearby you hit upon Double Gap which is a perfect site
    to explore. Some of the water nearby flows, like McKee Branch; a good spot for whitewater paddling is Pigeon River. What a spot this is for outdoors people.
