Hitting the trails is always a fun thing to do and Apache Trail in Rio Arriba County, New Mexico is a good choice. New Mexico has lots of outdoors activities. If time allows, Bandelier National Monument is a national park worth taking a look at; unsurprisingly La Madera Arroyo flows through this region. That right there is heaps already, but it continues; Apache Trail has it all.
It's a long drive from Espanola to Apache Trail but it is a good trail. Float down the rapids of Rio Ojo Caliente in a kayak, and Apache Trail is good enough to spend more
than a day at, Cottonwood RV Park is a good local campground. There's so much to do here at Apache Trail that you need to camp here for a while, Abiquiu Inn is a tremendous location for that, and the smiling folks of Espanola like to hang out close by.
During the days of summer
at Apache Trail highs are typically in the 80's, and the nighttime is a tad cooler of course, generally in the 50's. High temperatures during the wintertime are normally in the 40's with winter lows in the 10's overnight here at Apache Trail. Apache Trail is pretty waterless commonly; during the month of August you get the most rain around here; February meanwhile is the driest month. You absolutely should love the San Juan Mountains. A quick spree to Canada de la Corrales next to Apache Trail is a good idea, and get dripping wet paddling on Rio Chama.
Hiking trails are all over the San Juan Mountains, there's no better way to enjoy these mountains.
