A long drive separates Santa Fe from Chamiza Trail, but it sure is a nice trail. If you are in New Mexico during hiking season you have to go hiking. All through the months of summer at Chamiza Trail highs are mostly in the 90's. Through the moonlight hours it's usually in the 50's. Highs throughout the winter are mostly in the 40's with temperatures at Chamiza Trail dipping down into the 10's through winter nights.
Chamiza Trail gets very little rain; of all the months in a year August is the one with the most rain while February is ordinarily the
driest month. Get yourself into a kayak and hit Rio Santa Cruz. There's so much to do here at Chamiza Trail that you need to camp here for a while, Big Tesuque Campground is a great location for that.
At Chamiza Trail you always meet someone from Santa Fe, and if you have the
time, Santa Fe National Historic Trail is a national park worth stopping at. Chamiza Trail is wonderful enough to spend more than a day at, Tesuque Pueblo RV Campground is a wonderful local campground, and there are some good whitewater spots on Rio Grande.
