It's a long drive from Los Alamos to Vallecitos Trail but it is one of many great trails in this area. In case you don’t mind getting covered with water, you can always go whitewater paddling on Rio Grande, and a delightful location to camp here at Vallecitos Trail is Juniper Campground. In the San Juan Mountains you'll find lots of hiking trails, it's a great hiking area. It's a tremendous idea to stop at Rito de Abiquiu, it's near Vallecitos Trail, and a tour to Bandelier National Monument is recommended. Whohoo, so
| much cool stuff in one place! The San Juan Mountains is peerless! A quick journey to Rito del Oso in the neighborhood of Vallecitos Trail is a magnificent idea, and camping at Abiquiu Inn is always a fine experience.
Hiking here in New Mexico is a must. Through the warmest time of the year highs here at Vallecitos Trail get into the 80's. Summer overnight lows descend down to the 50's. The winter comes with highs in the 40's, and nighttime lows in the 10's for Vallecitos Trail.
