This is my first trip crossing the trail back in 1992. I have went through 3 times and will do again this year (2011). It is a wonderfull and very peacefull experience. Best season to do this journey is between December and April
when the vegetation is low and also dry season and I also recommend to do it from South to North starting at Sector La Vega in Barrio Planas and ending in Sector La Palma in Barrio Galateo.

If you
are in Puerto Rico during hiking season you have to go hiking. Nothing beats kicking back at Playa Punta Borinquen, and if you come at the right time of year, Guabo River offers some perfect whitewater. Valle de las Cotorras is a great place to spend some time at, and Playa La Ruina is a beach close by that you can pop by. At this ski area you will never have a bad time. Get yourself into a kayak and hit Anasco River; folks from Isabela love to come here.
Bosque Estatal de Guajataca is a tremendous local forest. Vereda de las Cotorras is a relatively wet place mostly with a lot of rain. Most of the rain falls through May, and February meanwhile is the driest month. For the period of the warm days of summer at Vereda de las Cotorras highs are usually in the 80's.
