Hiking trails like this one are plentyful in the Uinta Mountains where you can truly take in all the beauty of these mountains. Shale Dugway gets very little precipitation; of all the months in a year May is the one with the most rain, and the driest month of the year is February. A quick visit to Atwood Creek in the neighborhood of Shale Dugway is a tremendous idea, and if you come at the right time of year, Uinta River offers some glorious whitewater.

If you're here at Shale Dugway, you could stop by Shale Creek, and if you came for an overnight stay Uinta Canyon Campground is a fine site to camp. In Utah you never run out of outdoors fun. There are some splendid whitewater spots on Yellowstone River.
