  You'll have to go far from Harrisonburg to get to Gap Trail but if you're looking for a good place to go hiking this is a good choice. Ok, you've been cooped up too long, time to get out in nature a bit and Gap Trail in Shenandoah County, Virginia is such a great place. For the period of the summer months here at Gap Trail, high temperatures ordinarily get into the 80's. For the period of the dark hours of summer temperatures descend down into the 50's. All through the winter highs are in the 30's; overnight lows through the wintertime for Gap Trail tend
    to be in the 10's. This is such a wonderful river. You'll need more than a day to discover everything Gap Trail has to offer, you can camp at Yogi Bear's Jellystone Camp; Scothorn Gap is in the vicinity, and is a great spot.
In the Blue Ridge Mountains you'll find lots of hiking
trails where you can absorb the beauty of these mountains. Put some time aside to spend at Hiden Spring while you're here at Gap Trail, and get yourself into a kayak and hit Stony Creek - North fork Shenandoah Tributary.
There's so much to do here at Gap Trail that you need to camp here for a while, Fort Valley Stable's Horse and Mule Campground is a great place for that. You'll really wish for more hours in a day to enjoy all the fun things in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Shenandoah National Park is a very wonderful location to visit next to Gap Trail,
 
and there are some great whitewater spots on Shenandoah River - South Fork. Virginia is a good place for outdoors people.
Gap Trail gets a normal amount of annual rain; May is the month that gets the most rain while January is the month with the least amount of precipitation.
