  A visit to Virginia is not complete without some hiking. Far from civilization you find Hickory Ridge Trail and when you hike it you're always having a good time. So much exciting stuff in the Blue Ridge Mountains, just extraordinary. There's so much to do here at Hickory Ridge Trail that you need to camp here for a while, Raccoon Branch Campground is a fine location for that; New River - South Fork is a good whitewater spot nearby. This river is so good. Dickey Gap is in the vicinity of Hickory Ridge Trail and is absolutely a great location to go to;
    if you're looking for some flowing water? Try Scott Branch.
Time to get out and breathe some fresh air, and Hickory Ridge Trail in Smyth County, Virginia is such a great place. At Hickory Ridge Trail throughout the warm months highs are in the 80's with nighttime lows in the
50's. Daytime highs during the winter are in the 40's with winter lows in the 20's overnight here at Hickory Ridge Trail. You'll need more than a day to explore everything Hickory Ridge Trail has to offer, you can camp at Hurricane Campground.
Hickory Ridge Trail ordinarily gets a large amount of rain; of all the months in a year July is the one with the most rain; November on the other hand is the driest. Getting to Solomon Branch from Hickory Ridge Trail is easy, and you can run the rapids of Big Wilson Creek.
