  A visit to Virginia is not complete without some hiking. If you came to camp Blowing Springs Campground is a brilliant site to do that; get your pulse rate up on the splendid whitewater of Jackson River. At Open Trail through the months of summer highs are in the 80's, and during the night it cools down to the 50's. Through the winter highs are in the 30's, and night lows in the 10's for Open Trail.
There's so much to do here at Open Trail that you need to camp here for a while, McClintic Point Primitive Campground is a wonderful location for that.
    All the water falling down from the sky makes Open Trail a wet site; July is the wettest month with most rain; February on the other hand is the driest. Near Open Trail you find Coles Hollow which is a brilliant site to explore, and a magnificent site for whitewater paddling is Back Creek - Jackson Tributary.
