| | Virginia has so much to offer nature lovers. New River - South Fork is a good whitewater spot next to Switchback Trail. For the period of the warm months here at Switchback Trail, high temperatures frequently get into the 80's, and through the night it cools down to the 50's. The winter comes with highs in the 40's, and winter nights come with lows in the 20's to Switchback Trail.
In the Blue Ridge Mountains you'll find lots of hiking trails where wonderful nature is waiting for you. Hurricane Campground is a good campground here, and let's not |
forget Solomon Branch which is a stream that you may encounter while here. This is such a great river. Stay the night at Raccoon Branch Campground, and you can run the rapids of Big Wilson Creek.

| Trail you stumble on tremendous places like Fairwood Valley; needless to say Opossum Creek flows through this vicinity. Switchback Trail sees pretty high levels of rain; of all the months in a year July is the one with the most rain while November is the month with the least amount of precipitation. Ok, you've been cooped up too long, time to get out in nature a bit and if you happen to be in Grayson County of Virginia, Switchback Trail is a great local trail for doing a bit of leg stretching.
