  You can't spend all your time indoors you need to get out once in a while and Third Peak Trail in Grayson County, Virginia is a great place to go. If you are in Virginia during hiking season you have to go hiking. There's so much to do here at Third Peak Trail that you need to camp here for a while, Grayson Highlands State Park is a good spot for that; there's some flowing water nearby, Solomon Branch is a stream you can stop at while you're here. In the Blue Ridge Mountains you'll find lots of hiking trails, there's no better way to enjoy these mountains.
    Big Wilson Creek is a nice whitewater spot near Third Peak Trail. Opossum Creek is in the vicinity of Third Peak Trail and is always a joy to check out, and you can stay the night at Hurricane Campground. So many entertaining things in the Blue Ridge Mountains, just phenomenal.
If you don't mind getting wet, you can always go whitewater paddling on New River - South Fork; close by you discover great sites like Fairwood Valley.
Third Peak Trail is a wet site that gets much precipitation; during the month of July you get the most rain around here; November on the other hand is the driest. During the warm days of summer here at Third Peak Trail, high temperatures regularly get into the 80's. Throughout the dark hours of summer temperatures descend down into the 50's. Highs through the wintertime are mostly in the 40's with temperatures
 
at Third Peak Trail dipping down into the 20's throughout winter nights.
A long drive separates Boone from Third Peak Trail, but it is one of many great trails in this area.
