  This part of Virginia is always a pleasure to visit during hiking season. You'll have to go far from Boone to get to Third Peak Trail but there's great natural beauty awaiting you along it. Ok, you've been cooped up too long, time to get out in nature a bit and Third Peak Trail in Grayson County, Virginia is a great place to go. Get yourself into a kayak and hit New River - South Fork.
If you're here at Third Peak Trail, you could pop by Opossum Creek, and if you came to camp Grayson Highlands State Park is a glorious place to do that. Since you're
    here at Third Peak Trail why not go to Fairwood Valley. There's so much to do here at Third Peak Trail that you need to camp here for a while, Hurricane Campground is a nice location for that. Through the days of summer highs here at Third Peak Trail get into the 80's. During the
moonlight hours it's regularly in the 50's. The cold days of the winter come with highs in the 40's, and nighttime lows at Third Peak Trail all through the winter generally descend into the 20's.
Third Peak Trail sees pretty high levels of rain; July is the wettest month with most rain while November is frequently the driest month. In the Blue Ridge Mountains you'll find lots of hiking trails, it's a great hiking area.
All the outdoors enjoyable stuff in the Blue Ridge Mountains will keep you coming back again and again. Why not explore close by Solomon Branch while you're here at Third Peak Trail, and get soaked paddling on Big Wilson Creek.
