During the wintertime highs are frequently in the 30's; through the dark hours in the winter at Loop Trail temperatures sink to the 10's. Loop Trail is splendid enough to spend more than a day at, Red Creek Campground is a splendid local campground, and you can run the rapids of Potomac |
River - North Fork of South Branch.
Shook Gap is a good place to go to nearby, and get your heart beating on the wonderful whitewater of Potomac River - South Branch. Loop Trail gets a lot of water; most of the rain falls all through July while October is the month with the
| least amount of precipitation.
There's so much to do here at Loop Trail that you need to camp here for a while, Smoke Hole Campground is a brilliant spot for that, and some of the water close by flows, like Long Run. | |
