A long drive separates New Haven-Milford from Mattabesset Trail, but it is a good trail. Connecticut is a great outdoors state. for more than one day, Hammonasset Beach State Park is a good location to camp nearby. Going to Wadsworth Falls State Park next to Mattabesset Trail is a pleasant thing to do, and Little City Campground is a glorious campground nearby.
| There's whitewater on Hammonasset River for all you adrenaline rush seekers; a splendid beach nearby is Jacobs Public Beach. Take a side tour to Hemlock Brook, and Lane Pond Dam is a location that is close to Mattabesset Trail. There's just no way someone can get bored here at Mattabesset Trail. temperatures sink down into the 50's. During the winter highs are in the 30's, and winter nights come with lows in the 10's to Mattabesset Trail. The high level of rain makes Mattabesset Trail a quite wet place. May is the month that gets the most rain; February on the other hand is the driest.
