A long drive separates Boone from Yancey Ridge Trail, but hiking is such a fun thing to do and this is a great place to do that. If you came for an overnight stay Down By The River Campground is a tremendous place to camp; at Yancey Ridge Trail you always meet someone from Collettsville. Daniel Boone Family Campground is a delightful local campground, and Lake James State Park is a perfect site to have a look at. Whitewater paddling is not for everybody but if it's for you then we recommend Gragg Prong River. It's a fine idea   to visit Laurel Mountain Branch, it's near Yancey Ridge Trail, and there's whitewater on Wilson Creek for all you adrenaline rush seekers. What a place this is for outdoors people. Through the warm months at Yancey Ridge Trail temperatures are generally in the 70's.
