Staunton River Trail   Incredible hike - park at end of 662, follow Rapidan River to Staunton River Trail - follow trail up to Fork Mt. Road, down to Hoover Road, down to Rapidan hollow, then back to 662 parking area - my guess is 11 miles.  2 50+ adults and an old dog did it in 5:15.  SPECTACULAR! Says Mike M Staunton River Trail is located quite a long drive from Charlottesville but when you spend some time hiking here you will feel like a whole new person. This part     of Virginia has a great deal of available outdoors activities. Garth Spring Run is a good place to go to, and a perfect spot to stop by nearby is McDaniel Hollow. If time allows, Shenandoah National Park is a national park worth taking a look at, and if you come at the right time of year, Rose River offers some great whitewater. Some of the water nearby flows, like Wilson Run; drift down the rapids of Rapidan River in a kayak. Camping at Heavenly Acres Campground is always a delightful experience; Staunton River Trail is not far at all from Syria. If you have a thing about the outdoors, you'll adore Staunton River Trail. If you came to camp Lewis Mountain Campground is a glorious place to   do that. For the duration of the days of summer at Staunton River Trail highs are mostly in the 80's. When the night sets in temperatures descend down into the 60's. During the wintertime highs are mostly in the 40's, and nighttime lows through the wintertime for Staunton River Trail tend to be in the 20's.
